The Tim Olsen Works on Paper Gallery offers a large selection of
affordable etchings and lithographs.
Collecting works on paper provides a practical start for many new
collectors and some of the most significant Australian private
collections began with the purchase of drawings and prints. The Tim
Olsen Works on Paper Gallery will also present project exhibitions of
work employing this important medium.
With a definite focus on the work of Australian artists, we do also
represent overseas-based artists and have initiated exhibitions
overseas, thus promoting a dialogue between Australia art and our
international contemporaries. The Tim Olsen Gallery draws on these
partnerships for the collection development of our private and
institutional collectors.
The Tim Olsen Gallery’s move into the purpose designed premises on
Jersey Road Woollahra marks a new an exciting chapter in the evolution
of the gallery. After operating out of two significant galleries in
Paddington and Woollahra the consolidation of the exhibition programme
into one large venue allows our many local and international visitors
to view artworks under one roof.
The gallery has been specifically built to incorporate the capacity to
view both artworks that employ new media and related documentary
material, with the aim to give our clients a window into the artmaking
process. Tim Olsen has embarked on a project to document artists at
work in their studio discussing the motivation behind their art. It is
our intention to make these pieces available both in the gallery and on
this site via pod casts whenever possible and see it as an increasingly
relevant aspect of our service.
Previously known as Olsen Carr Art Dealers the Tim Olsen Gallery opened
in 1993 and has rapidly expanded to become one of Sydney’s leading
galleries. Tim has cultivated a stable of artists that he feels
presents a comprehensive and poignant view of the contemporary arts in
Australia. With a continually changing exhibition calender we present
the work of both emerging and established artists. We have nurtured the
careers of artists from their first exhibition out of art school and
proudly see them now as leading lights in the Australian art scene. In
conjunction with the local art schools Tim Olsen also awards annual
prizes to students with outstanding potential.
Foremost in the gallery’s stable is John Olsen, now regarded as
Australia’s most esteemed living artist. In addition to the staging of
countless critically acclaimed exhibitions the gallery has hosted the
launch of many books devoted to his unique and ingenious artmaking. Tim
has also negotiated the sale of some of the most significant paintings
in Olsen’s oeuvre to both private and institutional collections. Both
John and Tim’s enthusiasm for works on paper has also inspired the
evolution of the Tim Olsen Gallery Annex to a specifics works on paper
space in 2007.
